Does your software price for India?
Everyone says "India-first", but most software still bills in dollars. We checked the currency of every verified-price tool in our catalog to see how much of it an Indian buyer can actually pay for in rupees, which categories give no rupee option at all, and the forex cost hiding on top of the sticker price. Updated July 2026.
Quick answer: 68% of priced tools bill in USD and only 30% in rupees. 11 of 39 priced categories offer no rupee option at all — and paying a dollar bill by Indian card adds roughly 4.1% (3.5% forex markup + 18% GST) on top of the exchange rate.
Key findings
- 68% of priced tools bill in USD, versus 30% in INR — even for an India-first audience.
- 11 of 39 priced categories have no rupee option — you simply cannot pay in INR, only dollars.
- The hidden forex cost: an Indian card adds ~3.5% markup + 18% GST on it, so you effectively pay about Rs.86.43/$ — roughly 4.1% over the sticker rupee figure.
- Dollar pricing runs higher: the median USD tool ($18/mo ≈ Rs.1,494) sits well above the median rupee-priced tool (Rs.770/mo).

The forex markup nobody quotes
The exchange rate is only part of the story. When you pay a dollar software bill with an Indian card, the bank adds a forex markup (typically ~3.5%) and 18% GST applies to that fee. So the effective cost is about Rs.86.43 per dollar, not the Rs.83 mid-market rate — about 4.1% more.
| Median USD tool | $18/mo |
| At the sticker rate (Rs.83/$) | Rs.17,928/yr |
| After forex markup + GST (Rs.86.43/$) | Rs.18,668/yr |
| Hidden forex cost | Rs.740/yr |
Methodology
Based on the source-backed tools in the FindThatSoftware catalog with a verified paid starting price (179tools) — a curated sample, not a market census. Currency is taken from each vendor's own pricing page; we report shares, never mixing currencies. A category is counted as "no rupee option" when it has at least two priced tools and none price in INR. The exchange rate is the single indicative rate we use across the site (Rs.83/$); the ~3.5% forex markup and 18% GST-on-markup are typical Indian card charges, stated as assumptions — your card may differ.
