Payment gateway
Software that securely accepts and processes digital payments for a business.
A payment gateway is the technology that securely captures a customer's payment (UPI, card, netbanking or wallet) and routes it to the bank for authorisation, returning the result to your site in seconds. It is the piece that lets a business collect money online.
In India most SMBs use a payment aggregator (Razorpay, Cashfree, PayU) which bundles the gateway with a merchant account and compliance, so you can start accepting payments without setting up your own merchant account.
